MEMBERS of Winsford Lunch Club paid a visit the the EST Donkey Sanctuary near Ivybridge recently.

Last year the sanctuary brought Wayne, one of the adoption donkeys, to visit the Winsford Centre and members were enchanted by such a gentle, friendly visitor.

When planning this year's monthly outings it was a must to go and see where Wayne lived, and meet some of his friends.

The Ivybridge Sanctuary is part of the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust, whose main centre is at Sidmouth. None of the donkeys at Ivybridge have been subjected to abuse and are used to provide riding for special needs children.

The Winsford members were met by the principal, Bob Venn, and his team who took them to meet the four-legged residents.

The donkeys were a lovely sight as they enjoyed the sunshine, even rolling on their backs and kicking their legs in the air.

Members enjoyed the lovely weather and the beauty of the countryside on the journey from Yelverton to Ivybridge. On the way back there was a competition to see who could count the most wild ponies.

People are welcome to come and join this friendly group for an excellent home cooked meal on a Tuesday or Thursday and a monthly outing to the seaside or other places of interest. Door to door service of the minibus is available for anyone within ten miles of Halwill Junction. Contact Daniella Coughlin on 01409 221470 for more details.
