Devon Junior Cup
North Tawton 0
Totnes 20
THE early stages were evenly contested with strong tackling by the home team countering some good attacks by the visitors. Finally North Tawton conceded a penalty for going over the top in a ruck and a well-struck kick from about 42 metres by centre Chris Hooper went over to put Totnes 3-0 ahead.
Tawton remained under pressure from some threatening runs by the Totnes three-quarters. The final passes were failing to go to hand however, giving Tawton the chance to stifle the attacks.
A good drive in a loose maul advanced Totnes a full 10 metres to set up a scrum about 10 metres from the Tawton line. Totnes scrum half Mark Hooper made a looping run round the blind side to go over for a try, converted by his namesake Chris. A further penalty kick from Hooper took Totnes into a 13-0l lead.
In the last stages of the half Tawton made a bit of a comeback with Keith Jones, Tawton's captain almost through for a last minute try, but the Totnes defence held out.
The second half found Totnes again pressurising the Tawton area and an error by them gave Totnes the chance of an early penalty score but this was missed. Tawton responded well and attacked the Totnes line.
North Tawton maintained their attack and a good running line by full back Alex Dennis off a neat pop pass from Rob North took him well into the Totnes 22 metre area before he was held up. From the scrum a break by scrum half David Fewings nearly put him through and from an almost identical scrum he got over the line but agonisingly the ball was spilled from his grasp.
For nearly 15 minutes Totnes had been pinned in their own half but Tawton were unable to make the telling break.
In the final minute a rare mistake in the handling by the Tawton threes gave Totnes centre Hooper a chance to hack through on the loose ball.
The kick and chase gave him a try which he converted to end the match at 20-0 in favour of Totnes.
Next week North Tawton are away to Old Technicians in Plymouth in the league.

DARTMOUTH started the match well, outplaying the home side in the early exchanges. As the half progressed North Tawton began to take control and two tries, one for Ian Perret and one for David Fewings, one of which was converted, gave Tawton a 12-0 lead at the break.
In the second half it was all North Tawton as they dominated the play and scored three more tries, all converted, to run out winners.
