a packed Jubilee Hall, in Chagford on Friday enjoyed the stories of Dartmoor horseman Johnny Arden.
Johnny was in lively conversation with Ed Hamer, of Chagfood, the Sustainable Communities Agriculture initiative.
Johnny's entertaining stories covered his childhood memories, his world war two adventures and the success of his Dartmoor carriage business.
As the event was also about the future, Ed asked Johnny about the prospect of more horses working the land. To most people's surprise it was not the rising price of oil, but of tractors that in Johnny's view would encourage more farmers back to using horses.
Other entertainment included Chris Chapman's archive photos of Chagford and an amazing collection of of residents' personal pictures of past Chagford carnivals.
There was a bar, music, lamb roast and salads, all of which helped the conviviality of the evening.
Local artisans, food producers and providers of sustainable products or services had stalls and gave their support to this entertaining and successful local event. Thanks were expressed to Dartmoor National Park for its support.
