WEST Fishleigh Farm near Hatherleigh, which provides supported living accommodation and activities for differently-abled people, hosted a visit from Central Devon MP Mel Stride recently.

He visited the farm to meet Carol Barkwell and learn about the horticulture, cookery, animal care, willow craft and countryside management activities available through Made-Well, a not-for-profit organisation, as well as to look at the accommodation and living spaces.

He said: 'This is a very high quality non-profit organisation that has used funds it secured from the Local Food Programme in 2010 to create an excellent horticulture site as an important addition to its already excellent accommodation. Its provisions for people with learning difficulties and others who are in some way disadvantaged are impressive.'

Charlotte Hartwright, who helps run the Garden café, added: 'We are open to the public from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 3.30pm and have a range of home-made cakes, light snacks and local homemade jams. We also sell plants, vegetables and fresh eggs. All are welcome.'
