THE 1st South Zeal and 1st Okehampton Scouts spent a night in the woods to raise money for ShelterBox after building their own shelters.
The event, which took place in the grounds of Wood House in South Tawton, welcomed a front line ShelterBox aid worker, who told the scouts stories of ShelterBoxes' recent work around the globe to provide shelter for the homeless.
The event raised around £490 and saw the scouts enjoy games, as well as a spit roasted wild rabbit over the campfire.
They also cooked bannock bread and made a vegetable stew, including wild garlic and nettles foraged from the woods.
The scouts had the opportunity to erect one of the ten person shelters provided in a ShelterBox and find out about the local charity.
Thanks were expressed to the estate and to owner of Wood House, James McDiarmid for allowing them use the grounds.
The children will also be able to track the box that they donated online, in order to find out where it will be sent.
In addition to their charity work, the 1st South Zeal scouts have also been trying to raise funds for repairs and much needed improvements to the Scout HQ in South Tawton. Funds are also required for new scouting equipment.
