SPECIAL recognition for its innovative holiday programme has been presented to Okehampton Community Recreation Association.

The Flying High Accreditation was recently awarded to OCRA for its good practice, effective operational policies, staff delivery and the quality of the schemes on its programme.

OCRA manager Stuart Lord said: 'This is a great step forward for the charity and a recognition of the staff's hard work to deliver fun, affordable, accessible and high quality activity sessions.

'Special recognition should go to Sue Doidge for her hard work in this process.'

This summer OCRA attracted almost 300 children to a diverse programme, which included the popular sport and art days, a range of sport camps, a street dance day, woodland adventure at Alder Lake, pony trekking on Dartmoor and a water activity day near Bratton Clovelly.

Once again, OCRA gave children free books and stationery kits through a literacy project called 'Reading is Fundamental'. This was accompanied by storytelling from Clive Pigg and other literary quizzes and hunts.

Through funding support from the Okehampton United Charities and the Children's Fund the schemes were supported and affordable.

OCRA has an exciting term time programme planned for children, youths and adults, which includes fencing, streetdance, gymnastics, pilates, badminton, circuit training football, multiskills and Friday night sports night.
