Okehampton’s firefighters are growing moustaches this month to raise money for Movember, a charity which promotes men’s physical and mental well-being.

So far the team has raised £490, and it has had to increase its target amount twice already.

But the all-male fire department is hoping to raise at least £1,000. To help raise the money the firefighters have set up a donations page and placed posters and collection tins in a local pub and hairdressers.

Firefighter Tim Stevens said: ’We try to do some fundraising each year. Because of covid, it is more difficult and this was a way to raise funds without breaking any regulations and I think it’s a charity that’s pretty close to our hearts.’

It was Tim who introduced the others to the challenge.

He said: ’I put it out to the group that I was doing it and asked who wanted to join me. We have got ten [men doing it] now.’

The men are pictured left plus Austin Kiely, Bryan Evans and Keiran Coyle.
