IN the Okehampton and district table tennis league Division one Bridestowe were at home to league leaders Okehampton A.

Bridestowe only had two players but Mark Tancock was in form beating all three players to score a fine maximum. Francis Griffiths lost his first easily against Barry Denner, but took both Nick Jackson and Barry Vaughan to fourth leg deciders, Okehampton won the match.

Academy A beat The Mixtures 10-0, although there were some hard fought games. Tom Pengelly just beat Sarah Jackson on five legs and Ben Hill just beat Karen Stephenson.

The match between Tavistock and North Wyke was a 10-0 win for Tavistock. Martin Fowler, Peter Hicks and Roger Bowkett were just too strong for the two players of North although Steve Granger took them all to a fourth leg decider.

Okehampton A against the Academy resulted in a 5-5 draw. George Haskell kept his 100% record going for the mixtures. Three singles were decided in the fifth leg. The doubles also went to five legs. Academy winning 11-13 in the fifth. There was another 10-0 win for Tavistock against The Mixtures, who only had two players. This takes Tavistock to the top of the table, eight pints ahead of Okehampton A.

In Division two there was a draw for Okehampton B against Milton Abbot A. Frank Cockburn playing up from Okehampton C scored 2, but Tim Westcott stopped him by winning in 4 legs. In the last singles Harry Bryant just stopped Tim from his maximum, winning 11-3, 12-10, 15-13. Okehampton won the doubles for the 5-5 draw. In the next match Milton Abbot A took on Okehampton C, Michael Blatchford won the first in the straight sets against Ian Copley. Tim Westcott put them two up in a hard fought game against Richard Rose. Ian Osbourne beat Frank Cockburn in straight sets, Milton Abbot won the next three to lead 6-0. Frank Cockburn got one for Okehampton just beating Tim Westcott, resulting 10-12 in the fifth. Richard Rose won the last singles and joined Frank to win the doubles. Against Michael Blatchford Ian Osbourne. The 7-3 win took them level on points at the top of the table.

The last division two match, Moretonhampstead were at home to Okehampton B who could only field 2 players Dick Randell and Keiran Coyle. Ken Underhill beat Keiran to put Moreton 1-0. Dick Randell beat new player Wendy, in her first ever league match. Richard Underhill against Keiran, which resulted in 12-14 in the fourth, for 4-4. Ken beat Dick in the last singles to put Moreton 5-4 ahead. Dick and Keiran won the doubles against Ken and Richard, for a 5-5 draw.
