OKEHAMPTON will be marking 800 years since the town was awarded a charter in 2020.
Cllr Christine Marsh told town councillors at their meeting on Monday that the first charter was granted to the town by Robert de Courtenay in 1220.
‘In 2020 it will be 800 years after our first charter was granted,’ she said. ‘We were talking about setting some money aside to mark the occasion, and I think that would be a very nice thing for this town to do.’
