South East division two

Okehampton 3

Yeovil and Sherbourne 0

OKEHAMPTON went into this top of the league hockey clash hoping to beat the league leaders and move joint top on points with a game in hand.

They started brightly and took the game to their opposition but finding it hard going as there was too big a gap between their midfield and forwards.

Chances were few and far between as the away side managed to cut out most attacks before the hosts could get a shot on goal; the only real chance falling to Mark Parsons whose two lame efforts were easily saved.

The visitors won a short corner which produced the only shot they had in the game, with Oke keeper Andy Harvey making a routine save to deny their forward.

The second half saw the home side dominate, they pushed and probed from the start and it was a moment of true brilliance from Nick Luxton that carved the away side's defence open before man of the match Chris Luxton produced a superb strike to fire the home side ahead.

The lead settled the hosts and they continued to bombard the opposition's goal, Luxton going close again before Reinier Rademaker killed the game slamming a shot into the bottom corner.

More chances followed as Okehampton continued to press, Parsons should have scored before he then fed Luxton who found the net again.

The visitors rarely threatened but when they did it was superb defending by Bingham, Spry, Williams and the stunning Jarvis that kept them out.

This was an excellent result for Okehampton, who fully deserved their win, which now puts Okehampton on course for their second title in two years.
