OKEHAMPTON man Chris Hodgson is to cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of his mother.

Chris is taking on the mammoth cycle from September 10 in memory of his mother, who lost her battle with cancer on February 7. Chris and his friend Graham Sage are hoping to finish the challenge the following Saturday on September 17.

Chris said that the ‘completely un-supported trip is about us discovering just how far two middle aged guys can push themselves without the benefits of a support team, while cycling over 1,000 miles in seven days.’

On his fundraising page, Chris wrote: ‘Cancer really is the C word. It touches so many people and there is no way of describing what sufferers and their carers go through so, although this journey is in memory of my mum, it is also a mark of respect to my dad who cared for her for six years as she fought the disease.

‘I am sharing this trip with my very good friend Graham Sage and our schedule is best described as demanding. We will keep you all posted via Facebook but hope that as many of you as possible can all give a little so that it adds up to a lot.’

Chris has set himself a £500 fundraising target and currently is around halfway to hitting that target.

Macmillan Cancer Support looks to help cancer sufferers right from the moment of diagnosis. Its aim is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and inspire millions of others to do the same.

Macmillan provides information, advice and support, conduct research to develop and influence better care and services, and do what it can to help with financial support.
