AS the World Cup kicks off today, regulars at an Okehampton pub are set to reveal a rousing England World Cup anthem secretly recorded over the past week.
Rob Bass, landlord of The Kings Arms in Okehampton, penned the lyrics for When The Lions Roar which ace record producer Richard Brown, a regular at the pub, has set to music.
It features guitarist George Nixs, who played for the likes of The Hollies, Suzi Quatro, Eric Clapton and Dire Straits.
The chorus, meanwhile, is provided by a choir of regulars. A number of other musicians and vocalists, who play or drink at the pub have taken part.
‘I’ve had a dream of creating an England World Cup song for the people for the last 30 years,’ said Rob on Tuesday.
‘Over the last week it has come to fruition. We have finished recording and are now at the editing stage, we will be ready for release on Thursday.
‘Everyone taking part is connected to the pub in one way of another. They have really got involved with it and the buzz around the place is absolutely amazing.’
When the Lions Roar, by the Kings Arms Collective, will be released on YouTube at midday today, Thursday. It will be signposted from The Kings Arms page on Facebook.
