AFTER raising a wonderful £670 for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) by holding a coffee morning on May 28, 79 year old Betty Bone from Okehampton is now planning to jump out of a plane for the charity.

ELF is a charity close to Betty’s heart as she attended the clinic there for 15 years. Her coffee morning was ‘officially opened’ by town mayor Cllr Jan Goffey.

Cllr Goffey said: ‘I have known Betty since she moved to Okehampton a few years ago. She’s one of those amazing people who fills her week with volunteering.

‘We worked together in the museum on Wednesdays, she does the trolley at the hospital.

‘Then she became one of my Books On Wheels (RVS) ladies for the library and so when she asked me to open her coffee morning for ELF, I was only too delighted.’

Betty’s next fundraising challenge for ELF is to do a tandem parachute jump with her son Kelvin and granddaughter Rachel.
