WITH both teams in about the same position in their respective leagues this match had the added interest of being a local derby.

Both sides have large squads and all players had match time. Okehampton expected to dominate up front but the young Crediton pack stood their ground well, winning their own scrums and lineouts.

The Okes back line though did look sharper with the influence of Martin Cox and it was not long before centre Carl Goodall cut through to score from just outside the 22 and just before half time good handling from fly-half Kevin Dennis, centre Carl Poynton and full-back Jake Chisholm put Callum Ausden away to score a good try right in the corner - Poynton putting over a good conversion.

After several changes at half time slowly the Okes pack started to get the upper hand with Stuart Bennie, Merrick Kirby and Andrew Fishleigh causing problems up front.

Scrum-half Richard Friend came on in the last quarter and soon had the pack driving forwards, pinning Crediton into their 22 and gaps started to open, Friend darted through to score by the post, Dennis converted. The Okes should have scored again but for a few silly mistakes.

l Well done to both Rory Honeychurch playing for the firsts on Saturday and Tom McGratton for getting selected in to the South West U18 squad training on Sunday.
