Okehampton RFC seconds 20
Torquay RFC seconds 15
IN their first game of the year the Okehampton seconds started the New Year well after an enforced break due to the recent bad weather.
It was Torquay seconds who started the strongest and for the first half were on top in most aspects. However, but the Okes defended well with Ali Mason, whose tackle count was impressive, and fellow back rower Simon Bennett — who gets better each week - earning the man of the match award.
Torquay scored two tries converting one and scoring one penalty. Okehampton seconds scored one penalty by Lee Carey to end the first half 15-3 in Torquay's favour.
The second half though was a different story with the Okes on top from the start.
Ali Mason scored the first Okes' try from the back of a driving maul. The second came by skipper for the day Buzz Brimacombe who crashed though a gap to score, Lee Carey converted.
The last try was from good support and offloads with Tom Richards taking the final pass to score in the corner.
Torquay seconds came back strongly in the final minutes, but dogged defence by Okehampon kept them at bay to the final whistle and in doing so completed the double over the visitors.
