FOUR students from the newly established WTF (Olympic) Taekwondo Club successfully completed their first grading.
Georgia Harman, Lizzie Warren, Karla Pridmore and Amy Clark were put through their paces by the club's instructor Niall Grange, sixth Dan, assisted by his daughter Emma, who is a second Dan black belt and twice GB champion and international bronze medal winner. The girls achieved ninth Kup.
The club was established in April of this year as an after school club at Halwill primary school for seven to 11 year olds. Now the club opens Sunday mornings from 11am to 12.30pm, for all ages in the parish hall at Halwill Junction.
Mr Grange and his sons Alex, a third Dan, and Liam, a fourth Dan, gave a demonstration for the children followed by one for their parents with a question and answer session the following week.
Both Alex and Liam are international gold medal winners. Liam is six times undefeated British champion. Both boys are living and working in Korea where they are teaching English and studying Korean martial arts.
Mr Grange has been training and teaching Taekwondo for more than 30 years and is himself an ex-British and Irish international competitor and Britain's most experienced senior technical judge.
Anyone interested in leaning WTF Taekwondo and other Korean martial arts please call Mr Grange on 01409 221458.
