OKEHAMPTON Fire Station will be hosting a family open day to raise money for a fire fighter recently diagnosed with cancer.
On Saturday, August 5 the fire station will be holding an open day that will include a sponsored cycle, demonstrations held throughout the day and opportunities for visitors to look around the station.
All proceeds raised will go towards the Jason Bragg fund. Jason is a fire fighter from St Austell who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The proceeds will go towards making some precious family memories and help provide security for his family’s future.
The open day will run from 9am until 5pm. There is no fixed cost for the day, however the station is requesting voluntary donations.
Gary Langan, crew manager at Okehampton Fire Station, said: ‘There will be various demonstrations by the crews throughout the day, including a road traffic collision extrication, rescue from height and a rescue combination drill.
‘There will be chip pan fire demonstrations and a road safety driving simulator for the public to use to highlight the dangers of drink or tired driving. There will also be the opportunity to meet the town’s local firefighters and look around the station and fire engines.
‘Tea, coffee, soft drinks, biscuits and cake will be also be available on the day to help raise extra funds.All the money raised will go towards helping Jason and his young family create precious memories and provide them with some security for the future.’
During the day firefighters will also be undertaking a sponsored 100-mile static bike ride, covering a little over the distance from Okehampton Fire station to St Just Fire station, the most westerly fire station in Cornwall.
