THE Okehampton Air Cadets Squadron is holding an open day to welcome new members later this month. 2443 Squadron ATC is holding its open day on Monday, September 8 at 7pm to showcase just a few of the activities on offer to young people in Okehampton and the surrounding area. 2443 Squadron meets on Monday evenings at the ATC Centre, Military Sidings, just off Tors Road at 7pm, the sessions lasting until 9.30pm. The cadets carry out numerous activities including walking, kayaking, shooting, gliding, flying, climbing, computer based studies associated with their promotion, Duke Of Edinburgh Awards, and the Ten Tors challenge. They also drill and are shown how to take care of their uniforms that are issued free of charge. The Air Cadets is open to anyone who has started in Year 8 at college up to staff cadets aged 20 and upwards. On display at the open event will be the activities the cadets have participated in during the year, awards they have achieved, and a chance to meet the cadets and their instructors.
