A SEASON of theatre screenings at the New Carlton Cinema in Okehampton kicks off in October.

Over the coming months, the cinema will be introducing a selection of screenings of a range of plays, operas and ballets filmed at the Royal Opera House and The Globe Theatre.

The Globe Theatre season kicks off with the Shakespeare play All's Well That Ends Well on Monday, October 1, followed by the Bard's beloved comedy Much Ado About Nothing on Monday, October 15.

Completing the Globe's cinema season on Monday, October 29 is a spectacular production of Christopher Marlowe's tragedy Doctor Faustus. The play stars Paul Hilton and Arthur Darvill, best known for his current role on BBC's Doctor Who.

The Royal Opera House season leaps onto the big screen on Tuesday, October 23 with Swan Lake Live, streamed live that evening from a performance at the Royal Opera House. Tchaikovsky's masterpiece has become synonymous with ballet.

The epic opera Les Troyens is to be shown on Sunday, November 18. The show promises to be a feast for the eyes and ears, with set designs by Es Devlin, designer for the closing ceremony of the London Olympics, and a world-class cast starring Bryan Hymel and Eva-Marie Westbrook.

Another Tchaikovsky ballet classic will be screened on Thursday, December 13 with a screening of The Nutcracker.

The season draws to a close with a screening of the operas La Boheme on Thursday, January 15, and Eugene Onegin on Wednesday, February 20.

Dates for the March to June programme are yet to be confirmed but will include Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, Nabucco, La Donna Del Lago and Gloriana.
