THE majority of parishes in West Devon did not see an election for their town or parish council last Thursday, as there were insufficient candidates for a poll to be held.
But an exception was Chagford where 16 candidates fought for the 12 seats.
Elected were: Robert Sampson 453, Gay Hill 426, Terry Bleakman 388, Kevin Coombe 372, Anne Thorn 352, John D'Arch Smith 325, Simon Hill 308, Andrew Parrot 279, Peter Williams 255, Margaret Haxton 244, John Shears 225, Barbara Stead 223.
Not elected: Nova Milton 209, Richard Davies 182, Barnaby Dickens 134, David Pitt 107.
Voting also took place at Spreyton where there were ten candidates for seven seats. Elected were: Sarah Collins 134, Des Hawking 122, William Porritt 112, Erik Osborn-Hodge 101, Robert Henderson 97, Ken Whitaker 97, Judith Talbot 90.
Not elected: Yvonne Earp 78, Zoe Grimley 76, Phyllis Tucker 53.
There was no contest in the following parishes: Beaworthy (Ward), Belstone, Bratton Clovelly, Bridestowe, Broadwoodkelly, Drewsteignton (Crockernwell Ward), Drewsteignton (Venton Ward), Drewsteignton (Ward), Drewsteignton (Whiddon Down Ward), Exbourne and Jacobstowe Grouped, Germansweek, Hatherleigh, Highampton, Iddesleigh, Inwardleigh (Folly Gate Ward), Inwardleigh (Ward), Lewdown Group, Lifton, Lydford, Meeth, Monkokehampton, North Tawton, Northlew, Okehampton East Town Council, Okehampton Hamlets (Brightley Ward), Okehampton Hamlets (Okehampton Park). Okehampton West Town Council, Sampford Courtenay, Sourton, South Tawton, Sticklepath and Throwleigh.
