TEAMS tested their strength in Simmons Park this weekend, as part of an unusual event organised by Okehampton Lions.
The Lions' Log Struggle saw teams of six people heaving a heavy log around an obstacle course in the quickest time possible last Sunday. The log struggle was inspired by an event formerly run in Okehampton by the Buffalo Club.
Youngsters under 16 also got to take part in a lighter juniors' version.
Lions' president Adrian Raymond said: 'The day started damp and grey but improved continuously and in the afternoon there was glorious sunshine. There were courses suitable for runners of all ages and many individuals and teams took part.
'It was especially good to see lots of children taking part and having great fun.
'A special mention must be made for our youngest competitor Phoebe Pengelly, aged five years old, who completed the short course in 3:37. Hopefully the log struggle will be back next year.'
Mr Raymond presented medals to the winners of each course.
Long course adult: Matt Chamberlain, 3:57. Short course male: Paul Barrett, 3:05. Short course female: Anne Caple 2:56. Short course junior team of four: The Otters, Amelia, Rosie, Matilda and Cole.
Short course individual: Jack Raymond, 1:30. Short course adult team of two: Anne Caple and Vicky Stevens, 2:47.
The Lions expressed thanks to everyone who came along and supported them on the day.
