A DEVELOPMENT of ten houses on a greenfield site at Folly Gate near Okehampton has been allowed on appeal.

Mr and Mrs Seale’s application (0321/20/OPA) to build ten homes, six affordable houses for local people and four open market homes, on land north of Brandize Cottage was rejected by West Devon Borough Council in December last year.

However Government planning inspector Nick Davies has allowed the appeal, saying ‘the evidence before me indicates that, with suitable scale, layout and design, the proposed development could be achieved without any harm to the living conditions of the occupants of any nearby residential properties’. Under a so-called Section 106 agreement, the applicants must provide on-site public space as well as £21,771 towards the village hall in Folly Gate and £95,538 towards education provision in the area.
