CHAMPION Devon ploughman Roy Jury of Okehampton and good friend and ploughing competitor Tim Webb of Appledore Farm are joining forces to arrange a charity ploughing match with their local organisation the Okehampton Ploughing and Vintage Machinery Club.

The art and skill of turning soil to produce a perfect seedbed is becoming a lost skill to many. Roy and Tim like to demonstrate how 'getting your hands dirty' puts food on your plate.

Some 40 entries are expected, all vying to be the best in their class, plus a demonstration of ploughing with heavy horses by reigning British Champion, Martin Kerswell of Buckfastleigh and Will and Annie Williams of Corndonford Farm, Widecombe in the Moor, who will demonstrate ploughing with three Dartmoor ponies.

Both spectators and ploughmen are welcome to attend on Saturday, March 14 at Gooseford Farm, Whiddon Down, EX20 2QQ from 10am.

The following day will also be a working day and the club will be hosting a display of vintage machinery. Proceeds from the events will be donated to the Devon Air Ambulance.
