RAISING the profile of the Poppy Appeal and recruiting volunteers will be a feature of the annual Castle Drogo Second World War weekend on September 25 and 26.

Starting at 10.30am, the Royal British Legion has been invited to the National Trust property near Drewsteignton to take part in the event where there will be displays and re-enactments by the Military Vehicle Trust.

The atmosphere of wartime Britain will be recreated whilst at noon on each day there will be a weapons demonstration. This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to step back in time and find out by following the family trail what life was really like as an evacuee.

RBL county fundraiser Carole Arnold will be on hand at the legion's gazebo to answer queries from the visitors and she will be assisted by a former veteran of the Burma Campaign and two very young 'Devon Poppy Girls'.

In addition, a serving member of the Royal Marines, Lance Corporal Ram Patten will be on hand to publicise the 'March For Honour' charity venture taking place nationally in November.

'Our principal aim is to recruit volunteers for the poppy appeal,' said Carole.

'We're asking people to give just two hours every year for this worthwhile charitable endeavour, which last year broke all previous records.'
