AT Okehampton Golf Club on Saturday in lovely conditions more than 150 competitors took part in the men's four ball better ball open.
The overall winners were Steve Fewings and John Higgins from Okehampton and Warren Golf Clubs with 46pts on the back nine, from Steve Rice and Nick Waldron from Okehampton GC, who were second overall. Third overall were Dave Chammings and Adrian West from Okehampton and St Mellion Golf Clubs with 46 points on the back 9. The best combination prize went to brothers Greg Holman and Oliver Holman from Okehampton and Teign Valley Golf Clubs with 45 points.
The competition was sponsored by Premier Roofing of Exeter and the club thanked Roger Slack and John Flavin.
The Ladies at Okehampton Golf Club enjoyed large fields in their club events this summer and have had many successes in both individual and team competitions.
At the Invitation Day many players are proving to be at the top of their game and Mo Huggins showed her continued good form when she again won the Mary Down cup, with Cherry James winning the Silver Peacock Salver and Anne Brokenbrow winning the Bronze Peacock Salver.
In the Express and Echo qualifier two pairs go forward to represent the club in the final in September - first place was won by Cherry James and Doris Jewell, second place went to Maureen Willcocks and Tricia Nilsson.
The ladies' club teams at Okehampton have developed very winning ways this season. The bronze players have qualified for the Sheelah Creasy Cup. Having won their division against Honiton, Bigbury and Stover, they will play Portmore in the quarter finals at Dawlish. The Presidents (silver) team have also been successful in gaining a place in their quarter finals.
