Okehampton and District Local History Society will hold its next meeting on Wednesday November 9.
The society will welcome back Paul Rendell, who has given several talks to the group.
His new talk is entitled 'Old Dartmoor', and through the use of old photographs and postcards illustrates the changes that have taken place across the moor.
At the October meeting, Dr Todd Gray gave an illustrated talk about war memorials in Devon. He has written a book, 'Lest Devon Forgets', based on his survey of some 2,000 memorials including crosses, obelisks, village halls, and hospitals. Dr Gray spoke of the unusual rivalries between councils and areas to produce the most striking memorial.
Meetings of the history society are held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Ockment Centre at 7.30pm.
New members are welcome and anyone interested should contact Malcolm Francis-Laing on 01837 840158. Non-members can attend at a charge of £2 per person.
