IN a week of heavy rain and blustery winds the weather managed to hold off to see 200 children, nine local primary schools and 10 college pupils enjoy a fantastic and successful primary football festival.

The football festival, which took place at Okehampton Colleges new refurbished astro turf, saw girls and boys of all abilities getting involved in a wide variety of football drills and then applying the skills learnt into the matches.

Organisers said a big thank you to Okehampton School sports co-ordinator, OCRA, Okehampton College and the students helping - Jake Aryes, Paul Gent, Jack Standbury, Jordan Lee, Sam Ewen, Reece Foster, Josh Dannan, Adam Quick, Harry Finley and James Anderson of which the day would not have gone ahead without them. The students were all superb leaders, said organisers, as well as exceptional coaches and professional role models throughout the day.

OCRA sports coach Rob Clarke said: 'The aim of the day was to introduce the children to football, giving pupils the chance to meet children from other schools, getting a feel for the Okehampton College sports facilities and for everyone to have an enjoyable time.'
