A FLAGSHIP 'green' business centre at Okehampton will be throwing open its doors to visitors tomorrow (Friday).

Okehampton Business Centre will be offficially opened by West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox.

Wind, solar and wood renewable technologies are all employed in the new building and the official opening will take place at 2.30pm in front of invited guests from West Devon Borough Council, the South West Regional Development Agency and others who have assisted in the development of the business centre.

The £6 million centre was completed in May. the building includes 16 office and workshop units, aimed at new business ventures.

The environmental impact of the building has been greatly reduced by features such as photo-voltaic panels and a wind turbine to generate clean energy, the use of a wood pellet boiler to provide the building's heating, the high level of natural lighting and ventilation to conserve electricity and cool the building, the collection of rainwater to use to flush the toilets and the use of low impact building materials.

The development is situated off the A30, Okehampton East exit, behind Mole Avon Town and Country Store.

Everyone is invited to drop in at anytime between 10am and 4pm tomorrow to meet the Business Information Point team, who are now located in the centre, and representatives from more than 17 organisations, including Business Link, who are keen to assist businesses in the area.
