AN Okehampton charity has been chosen to become part of a national sports campaign.
Okehampton Puzzle Tree is working with Sport England and DotComUnity to promote sports to people in the area with disabilities.
The Puzzle Tree, which supports local people with learning difficulties, is hosting a fun day of sport on Monday October 31 from 10am to 3pm. The charity, based in Castle Road, is a daytime drop-in community hub, acting as a place for those with learning disabilities to meet friends, get advice, use the internet, resource library and more.
The national sports body, Sport England, has chosen to work with the Puzzle Tree in a campaign aimed at encouraging people with disabilities to be more active. They are sponsoring the day's events at the Riverside Club on Castle Road.
Sport England want more disabled people to participate once a week in sport, and they have identified pilot groups across the country, including the Puzzle Tree, to help them achieve that goal.
The fun day is free to attend, and will include a range of sports for people to try. These include aerobics, Tai Chi, fencing, indoor javelin, boccia, badminton, basketball, football and table tennis. For those with mobility difficulties there will be seated exercise and an exercise bike.
