A TEAM from South Tawton Primary School were this week taking part in the National Trust's annual Crumble Rumble.

At 10am yesterday (Wednesday), family learners from South Tawton School raced through the grounds of Castle Drogo looking for blackberries to make a delicious crumble pudding.

Along with children from Cornish schools hunting fruit at the National Trust's Trelissick and Trerice properties, the South Tawton contingent were aiming to pick, prepare and cook the fastest — and tastiest — fruit crumble.

With support from National Trust chefs, the teams are going head-to-head with schools across England and Wales in a bid to win the national title of Crumble Rumble Champions 2010.

The famous British pud was tested by a tasting judge before the time for the whole process was dialled in and logged away to await results. The winning school's crumble will feature on the menu for visitors to the Trust estate during the autumn.

The time to beat from last year's event was 63 minutes.
