ROOM 13 in Okehampton hosted a community open day on Saturday June 11 to raise funds and awareness for the Oke Skaters and Riders project.
The project was set up by a group of young people from Okehampton who share a love of skating and BMX, with an aim of building a modern, exciting skate plaza in the town.
They have secured over half of the necessary funding for the project.
The day included films and music from those involved in the project, a design session to illustrate the hard work that has gone into the project, and tea and cakes made by the young people involved in the scheme.
Among those in attendance were Okehampton mayor Maureen McDonald and town councillors.
Room 13 and everyone involved with the project expressed thanks to those who supported the event.
To find out more about the project, feel free to drop into Room 13 and speak to one of the youth workers.
l The riders are organising a skate jam with an open competition for skateboarders and BMX riders on July 2 at noon in Okehampton Skatepark. The event will include music, refreshments and product give-aways plus great competition prizes.
