THIRTY-five Devon Scouts including Beth Frangleton from?South Zeal are due to take part in a two-week expedition to Iceland — the land of Ice and Fire in July. Beth from Mid Devon Explorers said: 'During the two weeks, we will spend the first seven days at the Icelandic Jamboree alongside 800 other 14-18 year olds from around the globe. 'Together we will introduce ourselves to a variety of Icelandic culture and Cuisine. For the second week we will have the chance to explore Iceland with guidance from the Icelandic scouts. This includes a wilderness expedition and visiting glaciers, volcanoes and geysers.' The expedition will be led by Paul Charlton from Devon Explorers who has a wealth of experience in working with this age group and has attended and led national, international and world Jamborees. He will be supported by a team of adult scout leaders and will have leadership support from a group of Icelandic leaders and scouts for the wilderness expedition. So far there has been two contingent meetings with the young people and a weekend camp discovering what Iceland has to offer and what the young people want to get from the expedition. The group is now working hard to fundraise the £1,000 cost of the trip by working in the community, bag packing, windscreen washing and gardening. The group would welcome any opportunities to share the journey with any interested groups and talk about the expedition before and afterwards.THIRTY-five Devon Scouts including Beth Frangleton from?South Zeal are due to take part in a two-week expedition to Iceland — the land of Ice and Fire in July.
