AN exciting charity fundraising challenge will take a team of three cars and twelve drivers across Europe in the Screwball Rally Challenge to raise funds for Get Changed Theatre Company.

The challenge is the brainwave of Okehampton resident Martyn Partridge, who with his friends decided to undertake the rally in September and fundraise for a good local cause at the same time.

The 'Screwballers', in cars with a value of no more than £750, meet at the starting point just outside Dover the day before they depart for France.

Here they will grab a few hours of precious sleep before catching an early morning ferry to Dunkirk. Once in France they will head off in convoy covering 1,550 miles through five countries.

The challenge is due to take place from Sepetember 24 to September 28. The drive will take them through Luxembourg, Lichten-stein, Italy and France.

The rally beneficiaries, Get Changed Theatre Company, work with adults with learning disabilities from West Devon.

Their mission is to produce high-quality arts projects which challenge public attitudes and raise the profile of the disability community. Their work promotes independence, overcoming barriers and developing resilience.

Martyn is now looking for support from businesses in Okehampton.

He said: 'Fundraising is going well so far. We have raised around £1,000 already with lots of support from businesses in the Plymouth area.

'Now we are hoping to get some support from businesses in Okehampton to help raise our total even further.

'We want people to know that 100% of anything they donate to our cause will go straight to the charity.

'All the costs of doing the challenge, from the cars to insurance, petrol, food, beer — all of it will be coming out of our own pockets, so that Get Changed can benefit as much as possible.'

Businesses and companies are being invited to donate a minimum of £50 in exchange for bumper-sticker space on the rally cars promoting each company's support. The fundraisers have also pledged to promote the support of each company via Get Changed's social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook, their own website and in press releases.
