OKEHAMPTON College's sixth form has newly appointed student council representatives for the new academic year.
Jed Chapman is new head boy, with Dominic Payne as his deputy head boy. Harriet Percival is head girl, with Libby Rogers as deputy head girl.
These Year 13 students have ambitious plans for reforming the sixth form and creating an atmosphere which is inspiring and accessible for students to get their voices heard.
A particular focus is on getting the sixth form more involved with the lower school, and creating a community where younger students can come to the older students for help, advice and support.
Through such schemes as mentoring and working with tutor groups, the student council hopes to create amicable relationships between students.
The aim is to train 45 Year 12 students as mentors and match them up to tutor groups, making it more accessible for younger students to ask for help and seek encouragement.
The student council also hopes to make sixth form more sociable and enjoyable with events like the Olympiad — a week where sixth form students compete in various sports like netball and rugby.
The student council meets regularly to discuss current issues and monitor progress. They also attend parent evenings, and give talks to the rest of the college representing the sixth form.
