YOUR readers may have heard that the two principal charities in Devon which work for ex-service men and women changed recently.

SSAFA (the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and familes Association) moved last month to a new address in central Exeter, a 'Devon and Exeter Armed Forces Community Support Hub' for ex-service welfare, and the Royal British Legion has moved from Exeter to a replacement regional office in Plymouth but, despite these administrative changes, the work of both organizations goes on exactly as before.

SSAFA has supported our forces and their families for more than 125 years and the work we do in 2014 is as relevant as ever, so that last year Devon Branch supported over 400 veterans and families across the county.

SSAFA is still here, in West Devon, 100 years on after the outbreak of the Great War as it was then, for those who serve, and all those who once served, and for their families, for life. If any of your readers, whether for themselves or a friend or relative, need support or advice from our small team of volunteers in West Devon they can reach us through the Devon branch office in Exeter – ring 01392-254611.
