IT'S time to wrap up warm again and head for Sticklepath because the bonfire night with a difference is just a week away.

This year's show, entitled 'Dangerous Intent', is being staged once again with the fantastic support of the local community, including the children who participate in workshops preceding the show and then perform on the night.

Chair of the organising committee Janice Goodwin said that after much agonising and having made a loss for the past two years, the entry fees had to go up this year to £7 for adults and £3 for children.

'We didn't take this decision lightly as this is an event for families. But like everything else, costs increase and lower attendances due to poor weather mean we don't break even,' she said.

'We do, however, offer free transport to and from Okehampton and still feel that this unique show offers incredible value for money, as well as, importantly, being a safe way to enjoy bonfire night.'

The fireshow was back on track in 2010, she said, having recently lost the event's two major long standing suppliers of used timber, to whom the committee was grateful for all their past help.

The committee said that once this November 5 was over it was appealing for year-round supplies of quality used structural timber. Unfortunately, it was not possible to accept any unsolicited deliveries of wood at any time, as the fireshow on the Finch Foundry field was held with thanks to the National Trust, which owned the land.

Mrs Goodwin said there was probably no other bonfire event quite like this one in the UK with a fabulous outside stage being created each year to depict a new story.

This year up to 3,000 spectators will find that Guy's misdemeanours have got the better of him again. In trouble with HM Customs and Excise for the illegal importation of gunpowder he goes on the run only to find that Sticklepath fireshow's now infamous plays on words and other hilarity catch up with him, illustrating a magnificent story, drama, set and musical accompaniment.

A spectacular fireworks display by Two Tigers Fireworks of Tavistock will set the backdrop for the finale of the all important lighting of the stage.

Gates open at 6pm for a 7.30pm start and all children (under 14) must be accompanied by a responsible adult or they will be charged the full price. There are free buses from Okehampton and parking nearby.

Tickets are available from the Flower Pot and Donald's Menswear in Okehampton, the Stores in South Zeal and the Sticklepath store. Refreshments are available on the field.

For the safety of spectators no alcohol, sparklers or fireworks are allowed onto the field.
