SHEBBEAR College is celebrating its victory over hundreds of other British schools by winning the annual Education Art Prize Competition.
Led by teacher Dixie Wahl, her Form 2 art class were successful in creating unique artwork which secured them the top prize.
Exploring the subject of landscape, Form 2 used a variety of different materials to create their artwork on the theme of 'Painting Without Brushes', which was then submitted for entry into the competition which is sponsored by art suppliers Specialist Arts and Crafts.
The Form 2 pupils created their artwork using natural materials found in the landscape around the college, and they even went as far as making their own pigments.
Photos of their finished pieces were sent off to the competition organisers last November and in January they heard that they had been shortlisted from hundreds of schools down to ten finalists.
They were invited to attend a finalists workshop at the Heritage Motor Museum in Warwickshire with artist Ian Cook. Only one pupil was allowed to take part in the workshop, and Elizabeth Hutchinson was selected.
After a busy days' activities they were thrilled when it was announced they had won and that the prize includes Ian Cook doing an art workshop at the college with all the materials provided by the sponsor.
