WITH the London Olympics just days away, OCRA is embracing the sporting spirit with an exciting programme of sport and activities for youngsters throughout the summer holidays.

Each Tuesday and Thursday from July 31 to August 23, OCRA is holding sport and art days for 6 to 14-year-olds, who can enjoy a mixture of sport, including football, basketball, fencing, an assault course, and much more, alongside art and craft activities.

The sessions run each day from 10am to 3pm, with the first child of the family costing £9.50, and each additional child £7.

Youngsters in North Tawton and Drewsteignton can enjoy free sport and art outreach sessions on Monday August 13, from 10am to noon in North Tawton park, or 1.30pm to 3pm in Drewsteignton playing field.

On Wednesday August 1 there is a free event to celebrate National Play Day at Castle Drogo, from 2pm to 4pm. There is free entry to the estate and play day, but entry to the castle and formal garden is not included. Activities are for newborns to 18-year-olds. A similar event planned for Simmons Park had to be cancelled.

Wednesday August 8 sees camps for gymnastics, trampolining and water activities. The water activity day offers a chance to build a raft, and experience open canoeing and kayaking. Places are limited and only open to 10 to 18-year-olds, so please contact OCRA to book your place.

The gymnastics camp will look at gymnastics movement, trampets, the bars and cheerleading, while the trampolining camp offers anyone interested in the sport to give it a try. Both camps are open to 8 to 16-year-olds.

OCRA will hold its stall at Okehampton Show on August 9, with activities and crafts for youngsters to enjoy.

For those who like to embrace their wild side, a fun-filled programme of woodland activities is in store at the bushcraft and outdoor adventure day on Friday August 10.

Eight to 16-year-olds can take part in a fun-packed day at Alder Lake, enjoying woodland tracking, bushcraft games and making a fire. The day costs £15, running from 10am to 3pm.

Horse riding on Dartmoor for 10 to 18-year-olds and an athletics camp for 8 to 14-year-olds is the focus on Wednesday August 15, and Wednesday August 22 gives any children aged 8 to 14 inspired by Andy Murray's journey to the Wimbledon final to enjoy skills, games and competitions at a tennis camp.
