Pinhoe 2
South Zeal Utd 1
SOUTH Zeal produced a great display against top of the table Pinhoe on Saturday and deserved at least a point in a closely fought encounter.
Pinhoe soon realised that it wasn't going to be a walk in the park as early as the 10th minute when Garry Smith combined with Tom Reilly to put Ben Davey through on the right but Ben's shot just went wide.
Zeals' back four with Lee Gilbert and Dan Wakeham in the middle and Scott Hooper and John Halliday at full back were solid as a rock.
They laid the foundation that enabled the visitors to edge the first half 1-0 with a well taken goal by Harley Cann who latched onto a through ball from Redd Cann, beat two defenders and gave the Pinhoe keeper no chance from 10 yards.
In the second half Zeal had to defend for their lives as the home side put on the pressure and Reg Wonnacott in the Zeal goal made several very good saves but Zeal were always dangerous on the break with both Redd Cann and Dan Wakeham both nearly getting through on goal and Jamie Atherton and Harley Cann both going close.
With 15 minutes left it looked as though Zeal would hang on for their first league win of the season but an own goal and a scrambled goal from close range denied Zeal after very good performance.
