PROGRESS on the rollout of superfast broadband across Dartmoor was top of the agenda in a recent meeting between industry representatives, Devon County Council and Central Devon MP Mel Stride.
The meeting was hosted by equipment suppliers to Airband, whose fixed wireless technology is set to go live across Dartmoor, improving broadband speeds for thousands of residents and hundreds of businesses.
Airband representative Dan Jones, who attended the meeting, said: ‘Airband is ideal for highly rural areas where the costs and logistics of laying fibre cables are often prohibitive.
‘Masts are already going up and we hope to go live very soon.’
Mr Stride said: ‘Three-quarters of my constituency will have access to superfast broadband by the end of 2016 – a significant achievement for one of the most rural constituencies in England — but I remain concerned about the hardest to reach areas. I am optimistic that Airband’s wireless technology is the answer and there’s no doubt its success would be a huge moment for those living and working within Dartmoor National Park.’
