I NOTICE in last week's letters page Terrance Scarborough used a quote from the bible to try and justify his ridiculous claims of the Human Rights Act discriminating against Christians, even though the act does the opposite.
He goes on to suggest a better law would incorporate the biblical principles of our Christian heritage. Presumably then Mr Scarborough agrees with this passage from the bible?
'However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.
'You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.' (Leviticus 25:44-46)
The bible either has to be taken as a whole or not used at all as guidance if it is to play any role in the shaping of future human rights legislation.
