TWO brothers have raised around £12,000 for charity after their young cousin was diagnosed with cancer.

Milton Abbot couple Mark and Jane Baker were told that their son Seth had the condition shortly before his seventh birthday.

Cousins Ollie and Seb Cox, who live in nearby Tavistock, had their heads shaved to raise money for the charity which is supporting their young cousin’s family and children’s cancer charity CLIC.

Their fundraising was shared on social media and came to the attention of former Manchester United and England football star David Beckham, who sent the youngster a message of support.

Seth’s aunt and Ollie and Seb’s mum, Louise Cox, said she was proud of her two sons for raising so much money.

Seb, 22, and Ollie, 24, had their heads shaved just over a week ago and at the time of going to press, cash was still being donated to their Just Giving page on social media.

Mrs Cox said: ‘Ollie and Seb wanted to raise money for the charity which is supporting Seth and his family.

‘Four to five weeks ago, when he was six, Seth was diagnosed with cancer and has now had his seventh birthday.

‘Seth had his first chemotherapy and lost all his hair and Ollie and Seb had their heads shaved to raise money for CLIC.

She said: ‘Lots of people decided they wanted to support them and within 48 hours they had raised £3,000 — the total is now over £12,000.

‘One of our family friends goes to school with Romeo Beckham (David Beckham’s son) and he sent a message to Seth wishing him well.

‘We’ve always lived in Tavistock and know lots of people, who have been very supportive and we’ve also received donations from people we don’t know and we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received.

‘Ollie and Seb can’t believe it — they are dumbstruck. They were looking to raise £500 and were hoping to maybe get to £1,000.’

Mrs Cox said CLIC was delighted with the fundraising efforts of her two sons and had sent a message expressing their thanks.

She said: ‘CLIC have been incredibly supportive. We all know they are amazing, but they, like other charities are struggling at this time (because of the Covid-19 pandemic) to raise money, so we have been pleased to help them.’
