FOLLOWING a surge of local support, the 30th anniversary of Sticklepath Fireshow will go ahead this year. This year's show and fireworks spectacular, titled 'Quarks and Sparks', will take place on Wednesday, November 5 at Finch Foundry. Last year's show, which would have been the 30th anniversary of the event, was cancelled following a number of difficulties throughout the year — but the team which has been behind previous shows has been hard at work to bring the event back to Sticklepath. At the show annual general meeting on April 2, the organising committee recruited several new members, and at a subsequent meeting, new trustees were also recruited. The organisers are still looking for good quality used structural timber for the set and bonfire. Organisers are also looking for people to help with wood collection, be it collecting, contacting people, or just lifting. Artistic director Hilary Gillespie said: 'The future of Fireshow still needs to be secured and the skills involved learnt by a new generation of volunteers. Now more than ever we need young adults to come forward and learn the techniques and skills needed to ensure Fireshow continues to be a unique part of our regional life.' The workshops begin on October 22 at Sticklepath Village Hall with registration for children wanting to get involved on Saturday, October 25. The construction of the stage commences on October 6 and the committee is looking for lots of volunteers to help to build the stage. Lois Rowlands is our volunteer co-ordinator and can be contacted on 01837 840367.
