THREE cars were involved in a collision in Mary Tavy on Tuesday just before 11.30am, which caused the road to be closed for several hours.

The three cars, a Vauxhall and two Peugeots, collided at the junction by the Mary Tavy Inn. One car was headed towards Tavistock, one towards Mary Tavy and the other was coming out of the turning to Horndon.

The air ambulance took one person to hospital and other casualties were taken to hospital by land ambulances.

A fire crew from Okehampton and two crews from Tavistock also attended the incident, along with four police units.

Police said the casualties sustained injuries, including broken ribs, a broken ankle and a number of whiplash injuries.

The road was closed for several hours and was re-opened at 2.30pm.

Sgt Dave Anning, of Tavistock Police Station, expressed thanks to the landlord of the Mary Tavy Inn, who provided refreshments for the emergency service personnel on such a hot day.
