CELEBRITY chef Gordon Ramsay has spent this week in Okehampton filming an episode for his sixth series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

The successful and talented chef, who has won numerous awards for the Channel 4 show where he acts as a 'troubleshooter' to try and improve the fortunes of restaurants, was filming at the Dovecote Restaurant in Red Lion Yard.

The episode takes five to seven days to film and the TV crew was based in Waitrose Car Park where Gordon was cooking up a culinary feast of 'Duck a l'Orange' on Monday, sampled by members of the community and 30 visiting Army cadets who were invited to appear on camera.

The chef will make a surprise return to the restaurant in a few months' time to see how the business has fared in his absence.

Restaurants either directly get in contact with the programme makers or respond to advertisements in trade journals to be featured on Kitchen Nightmares, which first appeared on our screens four years ago, before going through a selection process. This is the first time a restaurant has been selected in West Devon.

Gordon comes up with a recipe for success after problems are identified by owners and staff which are usually financial or relate to the successful running of the business. It is then entirely up to the owners to decide to go forward with his suggestions. Whether the Dovecote does or does not, viewers will have to wait until the end of the year to find out.
