NINE teams recently fought it out to be crowned winners of Okehampton Rotary Club's primary school quiz 2012 competition.

Twenty three teams from local schools entered the heats, whittling down the number to the nine finalists.

In a closely fought contest, the Okehampton 2 team clinched victory, beating South Tawton 2 by just two points. The standard through all the teams proved very high, as eight teams finished within ten points of each other.

The winners and runners-up were presented with certificates by Rotary Club president Sarah Watts, and the Okehampton 2 team were presented with encyclopedias by district governor elect Graham Smith.

Youngsters received encouragement and support from a large group of parents, friends, teachers and Rotary members.

President Sarah Watts said: 'A number of the audience had fun following the quiz and quietly noting answers as questions were projected, however none were keen to admit that they may have got any wrong when the answers were displayed of course.'

Sarah Watts expressed her thanks to Okehampton College for hosting the event and to all the helpers, both from competing schools, Rotary Club members and families.
