A BOOK documenting the history of Chagford goes on sale today (Thursday).
The Chagford Diary 2014, the second edition of the book, has been compiled by Sue Price and Jean Rhodes, and published by Chagford Local History Society.
The sources, spanning 710 years, date from 1303 down to 2013, and include old school log books, a blacksmith's day book, parish council minutes, parish magazines, churchwardens accounts and newspaper cuttings.
Dr Tom Greeves, an expert of Dartmoor and its history, wrote in his foreword: 'This diary is a marvellous evocation of people and places over many centuries, and reminds us on a daily basis how much we owe to those who knew, worked in, and loved this place before us, and how responsible we need to be in our town time in order to leave a healthy legacy for future generations.'
Dr Greeves will launch the book tonight at Chagford's Jubilee Hall from 7.30pm. The book will then be on sale at £7.50 per copy.
