THE NEW police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall visited Okehampton last week to give a talk on his role and listen to people in the area.
Tony Hogg came to the Okehampton branch meeting of Devon Senior Voice at the Ockment Centre to discuss his new role and meet local people.
Devon Senior Voice gives older people a voice, providing a way to engage with local issues and share their views and aspirations.
Okehampton mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies was among those in attendance. At the meeting, the mayor asked Mr Hogg: 'It is some concern that £50-million has to be saved over the next four years within Devon and Cornwall. Within Okehampton we have seen relatively low crime rates and much of this has been due to the continuity of our local police officers and PCSOs. Can you provide me with any confidence that we will still see this continuity in the years to come?'
Mr Hogg said he would pass on the mayor's concerns to senior decision making officers.
Cllr Rev Davies said: 'I was very impressed with Mr Hogg, and how quickly he has adjusted to this new post of police and crime commissioner.'
