Farmers in West Devon are being invited to come along and meet robots that could soon be doing their hard graft at a free event at Roadford Lake later this month.

The free informal drop-in event for the farming community is inviting farmers to get their hands on technology being developed for the land-based sector â?? and share their honest opinions on just how useful it would be to them.

The event is both a chance for tech developers and researchers to obtain input from the farmers who will be their end-users and a chance for farmers to see what is currently available and influence what comes next. Food and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

The Devon Agri-Tech Accelerator Showcase Event, hosted by the University of Plymouth, is available to book at eventbrite.co.uk.

The event is part of a £500,000 Devon County Council scheme is being supported through the UK Community Renewal Fund which was recently secured by Team Devon (which is group of Devon councils led by the county council).

The DATA (Devon Agri-Tech Accelerator) project is aiming to provide support and research for farmers, growers, landowners, and other agricultural and Agri-Tech businesses to develop innovations which can help build a sustainable farming community within Devon.

Councillor Rufus Gilbert, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery and Skills, said: ’We’re looking for farm businesses, specifically in West Devon and Torridge, to take part in the farm innovation pilot of the project to help gain an insight into enhancing productivity and overall sustainability in those areas.

And if you are an Agri-Tech business who would like to gain financial support to further develop your innovation, please get in touch.’

The event at Roadford Lake is taking place on Monday. February, 28 between 12 noon and 7pm. It is the first of two events being held in Torridge and West Devon. Find out more about the project at https://www.devon.gov.uk/economy/devon-agri-tech-accelerator-data.
