WELLINGTON were the visitors to Sandy Park on Sunday for their first proper game against the Tavistock U15s in this seven-a-side match with roll-on roll-off substitutes.

Straight after the kick-off Kim Upcott broke through several tackles to score. Two more tries in the first half from Flo Rodgers and Anabel Longden for Tavistock were created by straight running and maintenance of possession.

Wellington came out after at half time with much more resolve and tackled with courage, to keep the Tavistock backs at bay.

Wellington scored right on the full time whistle to give them a respectable score for their first match.

Recent recruits to the Tavistock Team, Beth Hodgkiss and Kayleigh Gatcom, had excellent games. Beth carried the ball on several occasions with strength and power and presented the ball for recycling when tackled. The scrum was sound with Kayleigh at hooker.

The Wellington team were clearly elated at the end of the match thanks in great part by the sporting approach of the Tavistock team.

Stonehouse U11s 0

AFTER two tough games, Tavistock produced a complete team performance to dominate a capable Stonehouse team.

Right from the start, Tavistock tackling was tenacious, led by Max W, Jack and Jasper.  With the ball in hand, the home side were not afraid to throw it around and support each other.  This resulted in two tries for player of the match Max W, and one for Jack in the first half.  These were successfully converted by Harrison and Jake.

The second half continued in the same manner.  The scrum was performing well, allowing the backs some quality ball to launch more attacks with the pace of Ben R, Max P and Nathan.  With more and more pressure applied to Stonehouse, Tavistock scored more tries with two from Reuben, another from Jack, and one from Ali.  All were converted by Harrison, Nathan, Jack and Ali.

TAVISTOCK dominated and blunted the teeth of the Stonehouse Sharks. Superb tackling from Lachlan Fulton, Jason Blake and Joe Burbage spurred the team on and at half time the team were 6-3 tries up.

Tavy were playing as a team passing the ball and punching through the Stonehouse defence. Good play by scrum half Luke Lewandski laying the ball off to Olly Noy Scott and Tom Pearson, gained Tavistock a lot of territory. Morgan Turnock scored a great try by breaking through a number of tackles. More tries from George, Archie T, Jason, Lachlan, Jude and Jacob settled the match and provided Tavistock with a convincing win.

IN a shorter second game Stonehouse Sharks fought back as the game was scoreless at half time, after Stonehouse had held Tavistock up at the line on a number of occasions. However Tavistock showed their depth when in the second half they pushed on with tries from George, Lachlan and Jude.

Okehampton U10s 5

Devonport A U10s 30

A WELL drilled and strong side from Devonport were better in the scrum and passed out well along the line - having powerful quick players who were able to get the better of the Oke tackling. Oke held firm for a while and pushed forward on several occasions only to be denied by a strong Devonport side. Unfortunately Oke did not ruck well nor take the opportunity to win loose ball resulting in more possession and turnovers for the visitors. It was 0-20 at half time.

The second half provided more fruitful for Oke, with the team gelling better. Finally their hard work paid off with Nathan scoring after great support work from Will.

Devonport B U10s 25

IN this second game against Devonport B the line outs were better for Oke. Brad, as hooker, had his best match of the season and from one of his throws it picked up by Nathan in the line out, who spun around to go over for Oke. This was followed quickly by another from Nathan, with a strong run from within his own half. He scored a hat-trick after good teamwork won Oke the ball, allowing him possession and to drive his way over the line.

Oke won tackles at key moments and at the interval they led 30-10 — with another two tries from Nathan and one from James.

The second half saw Nathan powering over the Devonport line for his seventh try after a lovely pass from Gareth. There were more tries from Brad and two more followed from Nathan and James.

TAVISTOCK held their defensive line and reaped the benefits by keeping the play in the Sharks half for the majority of the game.

Tavistock's forwards Oscar Campbell, Nick Buckeridge-Hobbs, Tom Gardener and Cameron Georgel, put the Sharks constantly on the back foot. Louis Peake was rewarded with his efforts by scoring two tries while Harry Edwards scoring a great individual try from a solid ball at a line out. Strong tackling from the home backs, Harry Richardson, Jack Baker and Bryn Bourton helped to keep the Sharks at bay.

Winger Dan Pett showed great awareness for Tavistock to snatch a loose ball in his own half before using his speed to allow fly Half Noah Berridge to sidestep his way to the try line.

The second period saw some great piercing runs by centre Henry Varndell-Dawes - one leading to Louis Peake touching down. Another run saw Henry make the try himself after beating several defenders.

Solid scrum half work from James Kenyon at the ruck helped Harry Edwards to find the gaps for his second try of the day. A final try by Noah Berridge sealed the win.

Okehampton U7s 8 tries

Devonport U7s 2 tries

OKEHAMPTON U7s played in a round robin against Devonport Services and Wells.

Against Devonport was of a high standard with a  strong Oke side able to run the ball out wide to their wingers to good effect — this caused Services a lot of problems but to there credit they did not give up.    Oke were captained by Alex Harrison who organised his team very well. Tries were scored by Joe (3) Marcus (2) Jacob (2) and William 1. The support play and tagging of Alex, Finley and Llew was superb.

Okehampton U7s 5 tries

Wells 5 tries

THIS was an entertaining game to watch. Isaac captained Oke and tries were scored by Adam (3) Indie (1) and Ethan 1. The tagging was of a good standard and the young Okes did well to keep Wells away from there touchline and scoring further tries. The support play of Lachlan , Holly and Alex was once again very good.
